Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The acute toxicity of aspartic acid, N,N'-[methylenebis(2-methyl-4,1-cyclohexanediyl)]bis-, 1,1',4,4'-tetraethyl ester towards fish (Brachydanio rerio) was determined according to the OECD-Guideline 203 yielding a LC0(96 h) ≥ 5 mg/L as no adverse effects were observed at testing concentrations up to the water solubility limit of the test item (Bayer AG, 1998b).

Aspartic acid, N,N'-[methylenebis(2-methyl-4,1-cyclohexanediyl)]bis-, 1,1',4,4'-tetraethyl ester was tested with respect to the acute toxicity towards invertebrates (Daphnia magna) according to a national standard method: "Determination of the immobilization at daphnia", UBA, May 1984 yielding an EC50(48 h) ≥ 5 mg/L as no adverse effects were observed for testing concentrations up to the water solubility limit of the test item (Bayer AG, 1998c).

The chronic toxicity of aspartic acid, N,N'-[methylenebis(2-methyl-4,1-cyclohexanediyl)]bis-, 1,1',4,4'-tetraethyl ester towards reproduction of Daphnia magna was tested according to the EC-method C.20, No. 440/2008 yielding the following results (Currenta, 2009d):

21d-NOEC (reproduction): 0.013 mg/L

21d-LOEC (reproduction): 0.041 mg/L

21d-NOEC (mortality): >= 0.12 mg/L

21d-LOEC (mortality): > 0.12 mg/L

Aspartic acid, N,N'-[methylenebis(2-methyl-4,1-cyclohexanediyl)]bis-, 1,1',4,4'-tetraethyl ester was tested for toxicity towards algal growth according to the OECD-Guideline 201 yielding an ErC 50 (0 - 48 h) > 1.319 mg/L as no toxic effects were observed at testing concentrations up to the water solubility limit of the test item (Currenta, 2010b).

The effect of aspartic acid, N,N'-[methylenebis(2-methyl-4,1-cyclohexanediyl)]bis-, 1,1',4,4'-tetraethyl ester towards the growth of activated sludge was investigated according to ISO 8192 -1986 (E) having an EC50(3 h) of 3110 mg/L (Bayer AG, 1998d). Therefore, an adverse effect towards microorganisms and thus the cleaning capacity of sewage treatment plants is not expected.
