Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage
Details on inoculum:
- Type: A mixed population of activated sewage sludge micro-organisms
- Source: The aeration stage of the Anglian Water sewage treatment plant (Godmanchester) treating predominantly domestic sewage
- Preparation: A sample of activated sewage sludge was collected from the sewage treatment farm on 29 April 1996. The sample was maintained at 20 ± 2 °C with continuous aeration and used within 24 hours of collection. The suspended solids level of the sample was 4.2 g/l, consequently the inoculum was diluted by one third to obtain a suspended solids content of 2.8 g/l. The pH was 7.3, therefore no further adjustment of the inoculum was required.
