Description of key information
Annex VII of REACH states that a study need not be conducted if based on structure surface activity is not expected or it is not a desired property of the substance or the water solubility is below 1 mg/L. All three properties are applicable for Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
Due to chemical structure, a study on surface tension is not a required study for MWCNT under REACH. A study is however available as a result of investigative research projects.
Although considered to be reliable, this study is not deemed to be relevant. Specifically, the study of surface tension by EU Method A5 (equal to OECD 115) is not applicable due to the insoluble nature of MWCNT.
