Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate with water for at least 15 minutes.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water for at least 15 minutes.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink half to one litre of water or milk. Do not induce
vomiting. In all cases seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: In case of fire do not breathe fumes as toxic and corrosive
vapours of hydrogen bromide and/or bromine together with
various organic decomposition products (carbon oxides and
soot) will be present. Wear a self-contained breathing
apparatus. Water, carbon dioxide, foam and dry powder may
be used to extinguish fires.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Absorb onto suitable material (sand, vermiculite) and
remove mechanically. Dispose of waste by incineration.
Avoid contamination of drainage systems and/or watercourses
(inform pollution control authority immediately if this
occurs).

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid contact with skin. Wear suitable protective clothing
and plastic gloves. Wash hands with soap and water after
handling.

Storage: Store closed containers in a dry ventilated area. Avoid
damage to drums

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None reported.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from spillage into still water is possible as the
substance will separate as a heavy lower layer. In other
situations recovery is not possible

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not possible in view of the low reactivity of the
substance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: In view of the data currently available, controlled
discharge should not be used

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The best method of disposal is to mix with a suitable fuel
and incinerate. A scrubbing system on the exhaust gases
should be used for removal of hydrogen bromide and bromine.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Do not allow the substance to enter into these systems.
(However, if it does some should be recoverable as it forms
a heavy lower layer).

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will only be used in industry and, therefore,
will not enter the public domain.
