Description of key information

Chronic endpoints are available for two sediment dwelling organisms, Hyalella Azteca and Chironomus tentans, representing different living and feeding conditions. Effect concentrations for sediment toxicity are expressed as manganese concentration of the overlaying water, and the lowest of these endpoints is a NOEC of 0.29 mg Mn/L.

Since effect concentrations for sediment toxicity are expressed as mangenese concentration of the overlaying water, the concentration is converted to sediment concentrations applying the equilibrium partitioning method (EPM) and the suspended matter-water partitioning coefficient Kp of 5960 L/kg. This results in a NOEC of 1729 mg Mn/kg dw.
