Environmental Precautions:
Observe regulations on prevention of water pollution (check, dam up, cover up).
Avoid emissions into atmosphere.
Do not allow to be introduced into sewage water, soil, waterbodies, ground water, surface waters.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Soak up with inert absorbent material and dispose of as hazardous waste.
Deodorize residue on ground with 3 - 10% hydrogen peroxide.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.
Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Ensure that apparatus and pipelines are free from leaks.
Do not ventilate into the open.
Use permissible in closed systems only.
Handle and transfer product in closed systems only (gas displacement device).
Dedicated loading/unloading stations required.
Sampling in encapsulated and vented system, e.g. DOPAK® sampling system.
The product should only be handled by trained personnel.
Set up safety and operation procedures.
Transport in suitable rail tank cars approved for Dangerous Goods Class 6.1 dedicated to Methylmercaptopropionaldehyde.
All precautionary measures indicated have to be observed.
Risk assessment and risk monitoring of all work places required.
Health, Safety and Emergency Management System recommended.
Regular safety training is important.
Written approval necessary in case of non-routine jobs, e.g. maintenance activities.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Ensure there is good room ventilation.
Keep tightly sealed in original packing.
Avoid emissions into atmosphere.
Storage capability limited; dependent on Storage conditions.
COMBUSTIBLE.
Formation of flammable or explosive vapour/air mixtures possible.
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.
Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire.
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water.
Suitable materials are: Stainless steel. aluminium, passivated glass.
Do not store together with: alkalis.
Protect from sunlight, warmth and heat.
In order to ensure due transportation, make certain that stacks are of the correct height, containers are securely fastened so as not to fall off, and labelled according to the regulations.
In the event of internal transportation, already-opened containers are to be kept closed in order to avoid spillage.
Normal measures for preventive fire protection.
Store in the original receptacle, keeping this tightly sealed, under cool and dry conditions.
