Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 14-day LC50 on earthworms (Eisenia foetida) was higher than 1000 mg/kg d.w.; implying that 2-methylglutaric acid is not harmful to earthworms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

An experimental study, scored as Klimisch 1, was selected as a key study. It was performed in compliance with GLP according to OECD 207 test guideline. Under REACH, such study is not required because 2-methylglutaric acid (i) is not intentionally applied to soil, (ii) has a low volatility potential from water and because (iii) there is no indication for high adsorption (Log Kow < 5, Log Koc < 4), high persistence (rapidly degradable) or acute toxicity to aquatic organisms (L/EC50 > 100 mg/L in the three trophic levels). The study was nevertheless provided here because it was performed for the purpose of another regulation, a Chinese notification, which required the performance of this test in a Chinese laboratory.
