First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

· General information: If symptoms persist or in case of doubt, seek medical advice.

· After inhalation:

Remove victim from contaminated area. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, provide artificial respiration. Call a

doctor.

· After skin contact:

Remove soiled clothes and shoes.

Clean affected skin thoroughly with water and a mild cleansing agent. No residues shall remain on the skin.

If skin irritation continues, consult a doctor.

· After eye contact: Rinse the eyes with open eyelids for 10 - 15 minutes with water. Then consult a doctor (eye specialist).

· After swallowing:

Drink plenty of water, but never give anything to an unconscious person.

Do not induce vomiting.

Administer medicinal carbon.

If vomitting occurs spontaneously:

Hold the head of the vomiting person low with the body in a prone position in order to avoid vomit getting into the air tube (danger of

aspiration).

Seek medical treatment.

· Information for doctor:

· Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Local irritation symptoms

After resorption:

Headache

Dizziness

Central nervous depression

weakness

Narcotic effect

· Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

In cases of irritation to the lungs, initial treatment with Dexametason metered aerosol.

Symptomatic treatment

(decontamination, vital functions)

Acid-base-balance should be controlled.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

· Suitable extinguishing agents:

Fire-extinguishing powder

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Use fire fighting measures that suit the environment.

· For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents: Direct jet water

· Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Dangerous decomposition products see chapter 10: stability and reactivity

· Advice for firefighters

· Protective equipment:

Wear self-contained respiratory protective device.

Wear a fully protective suit.

· Additional information:

Heating leads to pressure increase entailing danger of bursting and explosion. Immediately cool neighbouring packages and

containers with sprayed water and, if possible, remove them out of the danger zone

Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.

Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away.

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Use respiratory protective device against the effects of fumes/dust/aerosol.

· Environmental precautions:

Inform respective authorities in case of seepage into water course or sewage system.

In case of seepage into the ground inform responsible authorities.

· Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Absorb with non-combustible material like sand, soil or diatomite.

Make sure to recycle or dispose of in suitable receptacles.

Dispose contaminated material as waste according to item 13.

· Reference to other sections See Section 8 for information on personal protection equipment.

7 Handling

Handling and storage

Handling:

· Precautions for safe handling

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

Ensure good interior ventilation, especially at floor level. (Fumes are heavier than air).

Keep receptacles tightly sealed.

Restrict the quantity stored at the work place.

Use solvent-proof equipment.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Avoid inhalation of vapours.

Information about protection against explosions and fires:

Fumes can combine with air to form an explosive mixture.

Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke.

Protect against electrostatic charges.

Work on containers and pipelines is permitted only after thorough purging and inerting.

No welding.

· Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

· Storage:

· Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles:

Store container tightly sealed at a cool and dry place with sufficient ventilation.

Provide solvent resistant, sealed floor.

Prevent any seepage into the ground.

Suitable material for containers and packaging:

Stainless steel

Steel

Glass

Pay attention to special rules for the storage of flammable liquids.

· Information about storage in one common storage facility:

Store away from foodstuffs.

Store away from feed.

Store separately from:

Explosives (1)

Compressed, liquified and pressurized gas (2A)

Substances liable to spontaneous combustion (4.2)

Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases (4.3)

Oxidizing substances (5.1)

Infectious substances (6.2)

Organic peroxides (5.2)

Flammable solids (4.1A and 4.1B)

Non-combustible toxic substances (6.1B)

· Further information about storage conditions:

Keep receptacle tightly sealed.

Protect from heat and direct sunlight.

Remove packing material (wood, paper, cardboard) from the storage area.

· Storage class: 3 Flammable Liquids

Exposure controls / personal protection

Additional information about design of technical systems: No further data; see item 7.

· Control parameters

· Components with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace:

123-92-2 isopentyl acetate

OES (Great Britain)

TLV (European Union)

Short-term value: 541 mg/m³, 100 ppm

Long-term value: 270 mg/m³, 50 ppm

ILV

Short-term value: 540 mg/m³, 100 ppm

Long-term value: 270 mg/m³, 50 ppm

· Exposure controls

· Personal protective equipment:

· General protective and hygienic measures:

Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work.

Remove all soiled and contaminated clothing immediately.

Do not inhale gases / fumes / aerosols.

Avoid contact with the eyes and skin.

Do not eat or drink while working.

Use skin protection cream for skin protection.

If larger quantities are handled, provide emergency showers.

· Breathing equipment:

If vapors form, use suitable respiratory protective device

In case of brief exposure or low pollution use a respiratory filter device. In case of intensive or longer exposure use a

respiratory protective device that is independent of circulating air.

Short term filter device:

Filter A

· Protection of hands:

Chemical resistant gloves

The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation.

Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation

Preventive skin protection by use of skin-protecting agents is recommended.

After use of gloves apply skin-cleaning agents and skin cosmetics.

· Material of gloves:

Glove (three-ply) - PE/EVAL/PE

(PE=Polyethylene; EVAL=Ethylene-vinyl-alcohol-copolymer)

The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from

manufacturer to manufacturer.

· Penetration time of glove material:

Penetration time: > 8 hours

The exact penetration time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.

· Not suitable are gloves made of the following materials:

Polychloropren rubber (CR)

Natural rubber, NR

Nitrile rubber, NBR

Butyl rubber, BR

Fluorocarbon rubber (FKM)

PVC gloves

Eye protection: Tightly sealed goggles.

· Body protection:

Flame retarding protective clothing

Solvent resistant protective clothing

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

· Chemical stability

· Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided:

No decomposition if used and stored according to specifications.

To avoid thermal decomposition do not overheat.

· Possibility of hazardous reactions

Strong exothermic reaction with above-mentioned substances.

Forms explosive gas mixtures with air.

· Incompatible materials: Strong oxidants

· Hazardous decomposition products: No dangerous decomposition products known.

11

Disposal considerations

Toxicity

· Aquatic toxicity: Presently there are no ecotoxicological values available.

· Additional ecological information:

· General notes:

Water hazard class 1 (German Regulation) (Assessment by list): slightly hazardous to water.

Do not allow undiluted product or large quantities of it to reach ground water, water course or sewage system.

Danger to drinking water is possible if large quantities leak into the ground or into water course.
