Both results for dermal and eye irritation were issued from the same 2 studies which were suffering severe limitations because being poorly described. Therefore, no key parameters were defined.

The substance was reported to be either slightly or highly irritating when rabbits were exposed dermally for 24 hours, depending whether the substance was applied using an open method (Smyth et al., 1969) or occlusive patches (Duprat et al., 1976).

Justification for classification or non-classification
Following revision of the classification by EC authorities, R66 (R66 Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking) was deemed to be more appropriate than R38, as no standard guideline test (4-hour exposure) was available and the substance is clearly defatting as it was shown in some human exposure studies.
