The effects of the test item were investigated in all trophic levels on species of fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae and microorganisms.

The short-term effects on fish were investigated in a study performed in a semi-static study performed according to OECD 203 with the zebrafish Danio rerio. In this limit-test, a test substance loading rate of 10 mg/L was tested. The analytically determined test item concentrations in the freshly prepared test medium were in the range of 2.3 µg/L to < LOD (limit of detection: 0.2 µg/L). At the end of the test medium renewal periods of one day, the test item concentrations were in the range of 0.79 µg/L to < LOD. In the control, the solvent control and at a loading rate of 10 mg/L no mortality or other visible abnormalities were determined up to the solubility limits of the test item. The LC50 (96 h) was therefore determined to be > 10 mg/L (loading rate).

The short-term effects of the test substance on aquatic invertebrates were assessed in a 48-hour static test according to OECD guideline 202, part I with Daphnia magna. The limit test was performed with the test item loading rate of 10 mg/L. The analytically determined test item concentrations in the samples taken at start and test end were 1.9 and 1.8 µg/L, respectively. In the controls and at the loading rate of 10 mg/L (mean measured 1.9 µg/L) no immobilized test organisms were determined up to the solubility limits of the test item. The EC50 (48 h) was determined to be > 10 mg/L (loading rate) [> 1.9 µg/L (mean measured)].

The effects of the test item on algal growth rate were assessed in a 72-hour static test according to OECD 201 in the green algal species Desmodesmus subspicatus (formerly known as Scenedesmus subspicatus). The undiluted filtrate of the stock dispersion and the dilutions 1:2.2, 1:4.6, 1:10, and 1:22 were used as test media. The measured test item concentrations in the analyzed test media samples from the undiluted filtrate of the stock dispersion amounted to 1.1 µg/L at the start of the test. The concentration of the test item decreased below the limit of detection of the analytical method (0.2 µg/L) at the end of the test.

No inhibitory effect on the growth of D. subspicatus were detected up to the solubility limits of the test item. The resulting NOEC (72 h) and EC50 (72 h) were therefore ≥10 mg/L and > 10 mg/L, respectively, based on the loading rate [≥ 1.1 µg/L and > 1.1 µg/L (initially measured)].

 

The study on the toxicity to activated sludge microorganisms (OECD 209) shows, that the substance does not significantly inhibit the respiration of activated sludge microorganisms (NOEC (3 h) >= 1000 mg/L).
