First-aid measures

Never give fluids or induce vomiting if patient is unconscious or is having convulsions.

Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician and/or transport to emergency facility immediately. The decision of whether to induce vomiting or not should be made by an attending physician.

Eye Contact: Irrigate with flowing water immediately and continuously for 15 minutes. Consult medical personnel.

Skin Contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Consult a physician if irritation persists. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Destroy contaminated shoes.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be administered by qualified personnel. Call a physician.

Note to Physician: Effects may be delayed over several hours.

Rapid absorption may occur through the lungs if aspirated and cause systemic effects. If lavage is performed, suggest endotracheal and/or oesophageal control. Danger from lung aspiration must be weighed against toxicity when considering emptying the stomach.

If burn is present, treat as any thermal burn, after decontamination. Excessive exposure may cause irritation to the upper respiratory tract and lungs, damage to liver and kidney, CNS depression, as well as other non-specific effects.

No specific antidote. Supportive care. Treatment based on judgement of physician in response to symptoms of patient.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing Media: Water fog or fine spray. Carbon dioxide. Dry chemical. Foam.

Hazardous Combustion Products: Hydrogen chloride, dependant on the intensity of the fire.

Protection of Firefighters: Wear protective clothing and use self-contained breathing apparatus.

Additional Information: Keep containers cool by spraying with water. Contain runoff to prevent entry into water or drainage systems. Down-wind personnel must be evacuated.

Accidental release measures

Personal Precautions: Wear appropriate safety clothing and eye/face protection. Ventilate area. Only persons equipped with respiratory protection may be allowed in the area.

Environmental Precautions: Do not wash into sewers or into any body of water. Advise water authority if spillage has entered water course or drainage system.

Methods of Cleaning Up: Soak up with sand or other non-combustible absorbent material and place into containers for disposal. For large spills, barricade area and consult manufacturer. If further assistance is required, telephone the emergency contact number.

Additional Information: No smoking, flares or open flames. Eliminate all ignition sources.

Handling and storage

Risk Management Measures: This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH Regulation Article 18(4) for transported intermediates and ECHA Guidance on Intermediates, version 2-December 2010 (Reference: ECHA-2010-G-17-EN). The substance is used only in one site in the EU, with the Importer and the User being the same legal entity. Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at the use site.

Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.

Handling: Use good personal hygiene. Do not consume or store food in the work area. Wash hands and exposed skin before eating, drinking or smoking and after work. Wear appropriate protective clothing.

Storage: Product should be stored in compliance with local regulations. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place in the original container. Protect from excessive heat and cold. Do not store near food, drink, animal feeding stuffs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or fertilisers. Keep out of reach of children.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering Controls: Control airborne concentrations below the exposure guideline. Use only with adequate ventilation. Local exhaust ventilation may be necessary for some operations.

Respiratory Protection: Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure guideline. When respiratory protection is required for certain operations, use an approved air-purifying respirator. For emergency conditions, use an approved positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus.

Hand/Skin Protection: Use protective clothing impervious to this material. Selection of specific items such as gloves, boots, apron or full body-suit will depend on operation. Do not wear or use leather articles. For transfer operations, maintenance and equipment calibration, use goggles, body-covering clothing plus apron or slicker suit, neoprene boots, gloves and half face-mask.

For tank cleaning and accident scene operations, use in addition breathing apparatus (SCBA) or full-face mask. Remove contaminated clothing immediately, wash skin area with soap and water, and launder clothing before reuse. Contaminated leather items, such as shoes, belts and watchbands, should be removed and destroyed.

Eye/Face Protection: Use chemical goggles. If vapour exposure causes eye discomfort, use a full-face respirator. Eye wash fountain should be located in immediate work area.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical Stability: Is stable under normal storage conditions.

Conditions to Avoid: Avoid high temperatures (at or near flash point), open flame, sparks and direct sunlight.

Materials to Avoid: Acids. Bases. Oxidising materials, such as bleach and chlorine. Aluminium and its alloys. Tin and its alloys. Zinc and its alloys. Magnesium and its alloys.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: None under normal conditions of storage and use.

Disposal considerations

Very toxic to aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemical or used container. When empty, put drum upside down in the field and allow to ventilate for 3-4 days. Containers must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. The preferred options are to send to licensed reclaimer or to permitted incinerators. Do not re-use container for any purpose.
