Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion

Melting / freezing point
Melting / freezing pt.:
-85 °C

Any other information on results incl. tables

Cooling in the above mixture produced an increasingly viscous mass down to -89 ºC. At this temperature there was the start of

a phase change as the clear liquid formed a crystalline solid. In the duplicate tests a temperature increase, due to the latent heat of crystallisation, was observed at -93 and -93.5 ºC respectively. The freezing point, defined as the plateau region on the freezing point curve yielding at least five consecutive temperature readings which differ by ± l ºC or less was determined in duplicate to be -85 ºC (188 K) on both occasions.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The melting point/freezing point of CIS-l,3-DICHLOROPROPENE is -85 ºC.
Executive summary:

The freezing point have been determined for cis-l,3-dichloropropene technical grade material, 98.1 % w/w, batch number 2634. These tests were conducted in accordance with the OECD Guidlines for Testing of Chemicals (1981) and the requirements of the EEC Directive 84/449/EEC (Annex V). The melting point/freezing point of CIS-l,3-DICHLOROPROPENE is -85 ºC.
