Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A reliable 48 h EL50 value of 0.23 mg/l as water accomodated fractions (WAFs) has been determined for the effects of Alcohols, C12-13, branched and linear to D. magna.

A reliable 96 h LC50 value of >10 mg/L has been determined for the effects of Alcohols, C12-13

on the mortality of the saltwater invertebrate Crangon crangon. Effects were observed even though physical fouling is likely to have been present, since the water solubiltiy of the test substances has been estimated to be 1.1 mg/L at a loading rate of 1000 mg/L. Therefore the LC50 value is above the LoS, and so the test substance is non-toxic at the LoS. Other studies show the E(C)L50s to lie in the range 0.28 -2.8 mg/l.

The presence of branched structures does not appear confer it any different ecotoxicological properties compared to the Alcohols, C12 -13 linears only substance. Therefore the data is freely read-across between Alcohols, C12 -13 -branched and Alcohols, C12 -13 substances.

In some cases the CAS and chemical identity stated refer to SDA nomenclature for this substance. In REACH substance identification it is necessary to be more specific as to the chain lengths present. Full details may be found in the CSR
