- Endpoint:
- explosiveness
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- May 2014
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: Study conducted to standard UN test guidelines, with possible minor methodological deficiencies, which do not effect the quality of the relevant results
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Fifth revised edition, 2009: Explosives; Series 1 type (b): Koenen Test
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- 2.0 mm orifcace plate used only
- GLP compliance:
- not specified
- Parameter:
- thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: diameter of the orifice plate
- Remarks on result:
- not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
- Interpretation of results:
- non explosive
- Conclusions:
- Based on the test results of a limiting diameter of 2.0 mm, BMS-589152-01 sample shows no violent effect on heating under confinement.
Reference
The test results are summarized in the table below. The reactions are characterized in the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria as effect type “O” (i.e. tube unchanged), which is categorized as “no explosion” (considered negative). Each trial produced a flame out of the top of the orifice (approximately 2 feet) that had a burn time of roughly 40 seconds for each trial.

Description of key information
Testing on the sample BMS-589152-01 was conducted to characterize its sensitiveness to the effect of intense heat under high confinement using the Koenen test
Based on the test results, sample BMS-589152-01 has shown to have no violent effect on heating under confinement since the limiting diameter is 2.0 mm or less.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- non explosive
