PBT assessment for substance itself

TCD Alcohol DM was assessed to be not persistent: Based on the valid simulation test on degradation in surface water (OECD TG 309; Noack, 2021), TCD Alcohol DM is rapidly transformed to the dicarboxylic acid derivative (TCD Diacids).

TCD Alcohol DM was assessed to be not bioaccumulative, based on log Kow < 4.5 (1.2 <= log Kow <= 2.1).

TCD Alcohol DM was assessed not to fulfil T-criteria according to REACH Annex XIII in combination with ECHA guidance document R.11 (screening criteria).

In conclusion, the substance itself neither fulfills PBT nor vPvB criteria.


The PBT assessment for the transformation product TCD Diacids

Transformation product TCD Diacids of parent substance TCD Alcohol DM was the only transformation product present till the end of the simulation test on degradation in surface water (OECD TG 309; Noack, 2021).

At the current state of knowledge persistence is assumed for transformation product TCD diacid isomeric mixture.

Transformation product TCD Diacids is not bioaccumulative based on an estimated log Kow of 1.37 (completion of experimental study on log Kow expected to the end of first quarter of 2022). Accordingly, neither the screening criterion of aquatic bioaccumulation (log Kow >4.5) nor screening criterion for bioaccumulation in "air breathing animals" (log Kow > 2.0 and log Koa >5.0) is fulfilled.

Information on toxicity of Transformation product TCD Diacids is neither available nor required for PBT assessment.

Based on the fact that transformation product TCD Diacids is not B, it can be concluded that neither PBT nor vPvB does apply.


Overall assessment

Based on specific properties of TCD Alcohol DM itself and supported by the PBT-assessment for the transformation product of TCD Alcohol DM, it can be concluded that TCD Alcohol DM does neither fulfil PBT nor vPvB criteria.
