Additional information

An acute toxicity study was conducted in Rainbow Trout (Huntingdon Life Sciences, 2013) to assess the short-term effect on freshwater fish of exposure to 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. The study was conducted according to OECD, EC, and US EPA test guidelines, and in compliance with GLP.

Although the test material is highly volatile (calculated Henry's law constant = 14350 Pa.m3/mol), an open system was used in order to mimic anticipated real-life conditions; a flow-through apparatus was used to maintain test material concentrations.

After 96 hours, the highest concentration at which no mortality had occurred was nominally 1.0 mg/L (measured concentration of 0.276 mg/L) and at the highest concentration of 100 mg/L (measured concentration of 11.2 mg/L), 95% mortality was observed. Treatment-related effects were exhibited at measured concentrations of 1.65 and 11.2 mg/L.

The 96 -hour LC50 value to rainbow trout was determined to be 4.30 mg/L (95% confidence limits: 2.77 - 6.69 mg/L). The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) was 0.276 mg/L.
