The values for the acute toxicity to daphnia and the toxicity to algae were derived from reliable studies performed according to OECD guidelines

and GLP principles.

After exposure to Daphnia magna for 48 hours in a semi-static test, an EC50 value of > 0.19 mg/L (based on measured test substance concentration) for quinoline compound was found. Regarding toxicity to aquatic algae, the EC50 for growth rate reduction (0 -72 hr) based on measured test substance concentrations was 0.33 mg/L. The NOEC for growth rate reduction equalled a concentration of 0.09 mg/L (72 hr). Based on the algae results, in combination with the substance's inability to rapidly degrade and an estimated log Kow > 4, the substance must be considered as hazardous to the aquatic environment as the criteria for acute and chronic aquatic toxicity are fulfilled. The substance shall be classified according to CLP (EC) 1272/2008 and related amendment Commision Regulation (EC) No 286/2011 as 'Category Acute 1' (H400: Very toxic to aquatic life) and 'Category Chronic 1' (H410: very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects). According to section 4.1.3 of the Guidance on the Application of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the two Hazard statements are combined into H410.
