Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Reliable studies (Klimisch 1 or 2) are available for the acute toxicity of 5 V substances (NaVO3, NH4VO3, Na3VO4, V2O5, (NH4)V3O8) to 12 freshwater fish species (Brachydanio rerio, Poecilia reticulata, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, Catostomus latipinnis, Gila elegans, Leuciscus idus, Pimephales promelas, Ptychocheilus lucius, Salvenius fontinalis, Xyrauchen texanus and Gasterosteus aculeatus) and one marine species (Limanda limanda). For freshwater, acute 96-h LC50 values range from 693 to 118,000 µg V/L. Reliable freshwater data do not differ significantly for different vanadium substances tested: Na3VO4 (range: 3170-16,500 µg V/L), NaVO3 (range: 2200-11,500 µg V/L), (NH4)V3O8 (4101 µg V/L) and V2O5 (range: 693-11,8000 µg V/L). The lowest 96-h LC50 of 693 µg/L was observed for the acute effect of V2O5-flakes on Leuciscus idus (Mitterer, 1999; Klimisch 2).

For the marine environment, a 96-h LC50 of 27,800 µg V/L was reported for the acute toxicity of NH4VO3 to Limanda limanda (Taylor et al., 1985; Klimisch 2).

All results are based on total dissolved V concentrations.
