Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Read-across from another form of vanadium with higher oxygen content (i.e. V2O5 with an oxygen content of 44 %) compared to VO2 (oxygen content of 38 %) was performed. The results indicate that VO2 does not have any oxidising potential.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Oxidizing properties: Not considered relevant for vanadium dioxide based on chemical structure and oxygen content.

Vanadium dioxide does not need to be classified as oxidizing solid according to GHS and EC 1272/2008 (CLP-Guideline) Annex 1: 2.14.

Vanadium dioxide does not need to be classified as oxidizing solid in Division 5.1 according to the UN-Transport Regulations.
