The acute toxicity of the meta-isomer to Danio rerio for a duration of 96 hours was assessed according to the OECD guideline 203. The results of the study showed that under valid static test conditions, the maximum concentration causing no mortality and the 96 h-LC50 of the test item to zebra fish are both greater than the nominal concentration of 150 mg/L (measured concentration 147 mg/L).

 

The acute toxicity to Daphnia magna was evaluated for the meta-isomer as well as for the mixture of both isomers according to OECD Guideline 202. As no immobilization was observed throughout both tests, the 48h-EC50 of the registered substance is upper than the highest tested concentration (i.e. 150 mg/L tested with meta-isomer) expressed as nominal concentration.

 

One study was performed with the m/p diol mixture according to OECD Guideline 201. The 72h-EC50 for average specific growth rate and yield could not be calculated due to the lack of fractional inhibition, and it is therefore estimated to be > 100 mg/L. The NOEC was estimated to be 100 mg/L.

 

As a consequence, the registered substance, which has shown a lack of toxicity to aquatic organisms at the highest tested concentration of 100 mg/L and has a low log Kow value, is not classified for environmental purpose. The PNECfreshwater was thus not derived.

As the substance does not fulfil any of the criteria for classification and is not assessed to be a PBT or vPvB, an exposure assessment and a risk characterization were not performed according to REACH Annex I.
