Description of key information

Toxicity to soil macroorganism except arthropods:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely considering that   zinc stearate is used as a lubricant and thickening agent used to improve texture in cosmetics .The Log Koc value was determined to be 3.179 ± 0.001 at 25°C. This log Koc value indicates that the substance Zinc distearate has a moderate sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have slow migration potential to ground water but the half-life period of Zinc distearate in soil is considered to be 75 days (1800 hrs). Based on this half-life value of Zinc distearate and its uses , it is concluded that the chemical is not persistent in the soil environment and the exposure risk to soil dwelling animals is moderate to low and has no direct or indirect eposure to soil compartment.

Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely considering that   zinc stearate is used as a lubricant and thickening agent used to improve texture in cosmetics .The Log Koc value was determined to be 3.179 ± 0.001 at 25°C. Toxicity to terrestrial plants:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely considering that   zinc stearate is used as a lubricant and thickening agent used to improve texture in cosmetics .The Log Koc value was determined to be 3.179 ± 0.001 at 25°C.
