Valid acute aquatic toxicity studies in three freshwater species from different trophic levels are available for the substance Oxybenzone. According to the test results, algae are the most sensitive species with an ErC50(72h) of 0.67 mg/L. In the absence of long-term toxicity data and following the rules of PNEC derivation, the lowest L(E)C50 value from the available acute aquatic toxicity studies was used in the hazard assessment, i.e. the 72-hour ErC50 value of algae 0.67 mg/L.

Oxybenzone showed no inhibitory effect on microorganisms of activated sludge with an NOEC of 100 mg/L.
