The test substance is a colourless, clear liquid and has a melting point of -83.7ºC and a boiling point of 53.0-54.0ºC (TNO Report PML-1996-C33).
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, a relative density study was conducted and it was determined that the test substance has a relative density of 1.6 g/cm3. The vapour pressure is 248 hPa at 20°C and 313 hPa (235 torr) at 25°C. The surface tension is 66.7 mN/m at 20 °C. The water solubility is 126 ± 33 mg/L at 20°C. The flash point was tested to 71ºC and none was detected before a phase change togas (TNO Report PML-1996-C33). Above71ºC the substance exists in the gas phase and therefore no testing is required. According to the REACH guidelines gases that have no flammable range in air do not need to be tested for auto flammability, therefore; no testing has been performed.
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) was measured as 2.7 at three different ratios of 1-octanol saturated with water to water saturated with 1-octanol and 24°C (DuPont-Mitsui Report P94 -1168, Test No. 81168, 1996). In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI the determination of dissociation constant was carried out by 3 methods: spectrophotometric, titration, and electric conductivity method. The results from the 3 methods tested indicated that no dissociation sign was observed. Therefore, it was concluded that the test substance was in an undissociated form in water (DuPont-Mitsui Report P94 -1178, Test no. 81178, 1995).
The viscosity for the test substance was measured as 0.67 cps.In accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, a flammability study does not need to be conducted as existing data is available that is adequate to meet the endpoint requirement. The test substanceis non-flammable as defined byREACH (NICNAS (1999). Assessment report HFC 43-10mee. National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment).
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII an explosivity study does not need to be conducted based on a structural assessment of the substance. Examination of the structure of the test substance indicates that there are no groups associated with explosive properties. Therefore, negative results can be predicted and no testing for explosive properties has been carried out.
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII a self ignition study does not need to be conducted on non flammable gases or solids with melting points < 160°C. The test substance changes to a gas that has no flammable range in air and does not need to be tested.
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII an oxidisation study does not need to be conducted based on structural assessment of the substance. The substance contains no oxidising groups.
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII granulometry does not need to be conducted for liquids.
In accordance with REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance indicates that this study does not need to be conducted since the stability in organic solvents is not considered critical. This would be assessed in individual studies where organic solvents are used.
