Specific details on test material used for the study:
L(+) zinc lactate (Zn-CH3CHOHCOO)2·H2O) was of analytical grade and purchased from Sigma Chemical Co.
Key result
Water solubility:
48.2 g/L

test mat.
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 7
Details on results:
The solubilities of L(+) and DL(±) zinc lactate in water at a temperature range between 5 and 80 °C. L(+) zinc lactate showed higher solubility than DL(±) zinc lactate. At 10 °C, the solubility of L(+) zinc lactate was 4.22 % while it was 12.16 % at 80 °C. When the temperature increased from 5 to 65 °C, the solubility increased slowly with temperature. However, it increased rapidly at a temperature between 65 and 80 °C. DL(±) zinc lactate showed lower solubility than L(+) zinc lactate. At 10 °C, the solubility of DL (±) zinc lactate was only 1.21 % and it was 6.6 2% at 80 °C.
The following regression equation was derived for L(+)zinc lactate:
Solubility (g anhydrate/100g solution)= 3.7 + 0.0412T + 0.0013T² - 3.56E-5T³ + 3.78E-7T^4,
with T = temperature (5-80°C)
Conclusions:
The water solubilty of zinc lactate is calculated to be 48.2 g/L at 20°C.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of zinc-lactate was determined in a study similar to the flask method according to EU method A.6 (Regulation EC 440/2008). Various concentrations of calcium lactate and zinc lactate suspensions were prepared and stirred for 2 to 4 hours until they reached an equilibrium at a given temperature.Tested temperature range was between 5 and 80 °C. Conductivity of each sample was measured and solubility was determined against a conductivity-solubility calibration curve. The results indicate an overall solubility in water of 48.2 g/L at 20 °C.
