Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
- In a statement it was concluded that the substance has no pyrophoric properties.
- Study reports (e.g. for determination of physical and chemical properties) do not mention any pyrophoric effect during handling the substance.
In accordance with UN RTDG/MTC/Appendix 6/Screening procedures/Section 5.2 for substances which may be liable to spontaneous combustion, no further data are required.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
-In a statement it was concluded that the substance is ‘not highly flammable’ in contact with water.
-In the water solubility study there was no mentioning of any release of flammable gas.
In accordance with UN RTDG/MTC/Appendix 6/Screening procedures/Section 5.3 for substances which in contact with water may react to emit flammable gases, no further data are required.

Endpoint:

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
2008
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN no. ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5: Part III: Classification Procedures, Test Methods and Criteria Relating to Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, Division 5.1, Class 8 and Class 9, Test N.1: “Test Method for Readily Combustible Solids", 2009.
Version / remarks:
2009
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test substance glowed. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test substance was observed.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified based on GHS or CLP criteria
Conclusions:
A GLP study according to EC A.10 and UN Test N.1 was performed. In the preliminary screening test, the substance does not ignite and does not propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering within 4 minutes. The substance is concluded to be not a flammable solid.

Description of key information

Not a flammable solid (EC A.10, UN Test N.1: preliminary screening test).

No pyrophoric properties (based on experience in handling and structural features).

Not highly flammable in contact with water (based on experience in handling and structural features).

Not a self-heating substance (as the substance is considered incapable of any (further) reaction with oxygen (as shown by the available results),

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification or non-classification according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008:

Not a flammable solid (negative in EC A.10, UN Test N.1: preliminary screening test)

Not a pyrophoric solid (the substance lacks functional groups that would imply this hazard)

No classification for the hazard "Substances which in contact with water emits flammable gases' (the substance lacks functional groups that would imply this hazard)

Not a self-heating substance (as the substance is considered incapable of any (further) reaction with oxygen)
