Conclusion on classification

Fish is the most sensitive species to dimethyl glutarate with an LC50 (96h) of 30.9 ppm. Short-term effects of the substance towards daphnia and algae were found greater than 112 ppm and greater than 85 ppm respectively, based on read across to DBE (EC# 906-170-0). Thus, dimethyl glutarate (DMG) is considered as harmful to the aquatic organisms.
Dimethyl glutarate is readily biodegradable and has a pKow of 0.49.

Therefore, the substance is not classified as dangerous for the environment according to European Directive 67/548/EEC and to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
