Description of key information

The solubility of the butylene oligomers C8 - C16 is estimated to range from 0.135 - 9.2 mg/L at 20°C.

In the absence of measured data for the solubility of the butylene oligomers, solubility was estimated using WSKOWWIN in EPISuite 4 (2009) which estimates the water solubility of an organic compound using the compounds log octanol-water partition coefficient . WSKOWWIN requires only a chemical structure to estimate the water solubility. The calculated water solubility of the members of the category C8 – C16 ranged from 0.135 to 9.2 mg/L at 20°C.

An additional study for the solubility of 97280-83-6 was available but the exact solubility of 97280-83-6, was not determined due to the limit of detection of the analytical method. However the upper limit of solubility was measured in a guideline proprietary study (Evonik Oxeno 2009) as 2.4 mg/L at 20°C.This solubility supports the estimated solubility of the members of the category.

The mean of the water solubility values for the category is 4.7 mg/L at20°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.
