Description of key information

The melting point of members of this category are <-20°C (C12 and C16). As melting point increases with carbon number C8 members of this category would also have melting point <-20°C.

Proprietary studies from Evonik (2008) on 97280-83-6 (no melting point found) and Aqura (2006) on tetrabutene (-58.5 °C) are available. These studies are non-GLP but follow standard guidelines and are considered reliable and suitable for use as the Key studies for this endpoint. Category members are therefore considered to have a melting point of less than-20 °C. No further studies are required in accordance wih column 2 of REACH Annex VII.

The mean of the melting point values for the category is -58.5°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
