Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:

The acute toxicity of the test substance to zebra fish was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 203. The LC0 after a test duration of 96h (based on analytically verified nominal concentrations) was determined to be >= 100 mg/L (BASF AG 17F0642/12X366, 2013). In a short-term toxicity study of the test substance on Leuciscus idus, no toxic effects occured at the highest test concentration of nominally 10000 mg/L (BASF AG 10F0734/885075, 1989). In this case, the test substance had an active ingredient content of 34%. The LC50 value corrected for an active ingredient content of 100% clearly exceeds 100 mg/L. Based on these data, the test substance is not considered to be harmful to fish.

The acute toxicity of the test substance on Daphnia magna was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 202. In this limit test, no toxic effects on the test organisms were observable at an analytically verified concentration of 120 mg/L (BASF SE 50E0642/12X364, 2013). Hence, the test substance is not considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

The toxicity of the test substance to green algae was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201 (BASF SE 60E0642/12X365, 2013). In this study, the ErC50 was determined to exceed 120 mg/L on Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata (analytically verified value). Hence, the test substance not considered to be harmful to aquatic algae.

The toxicity to microorganisms was tested in a GLP approach according to OECD guideline 209 using domestic non-adapted activated sludge as inoculum (BASF SE 08G0642/12G231, 2013). After an incubation period of 180 minutes the EC10 was found to exceed 1000 mg/L based on the nominal concentrations. In a study according to DIN 38412, part 8, the EC10 value of the test item on Pseudomonas putida was determined to exceed the highest test concentration of 1000 mg/L (BASF AG 9/1215/88, 1988). Hence, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

The hazard assessment of the substance reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance, nor are there any further indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare long-term toxicity testing in fish and aquatic invertebrates is not provided.
