Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN GAP Test
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test sample is contained in a cold-grawn, seamless, carbon steel tube with an external diameter of 48+/-2mm, a wall thickness of 4.0+/-0.1 mmand a lenght of 400+/-5 mm.
The bottom of the tube is closed with two layers of 0.08 mm thick polythene sheet pulled tightly over the bottom of the tube and in a place with rubber bands and insulating tape.
The booster charge consists of 160 g PETN/TNT (50/50), 50+/-1 mm in diameter with a density of 1600+/-50 Kg/m3 giving a length of about 50 mm.
A mild steel witness plate, 150+/-10 mm square and 3.2+/-0.2 mm thick, is mounted an the upper end of the steel tube and separated from it by spacers 1.6+/-0.2 mm thick.
GLP compliance:
no

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
non explosive
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test is used to measure the ability of a substance, under confinement in a steel tube, to propagate a detonation by subjecting it to the detonation from a booster charge.
No detonation propagation occurs under confinement.
