The water solubility of polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl has been measured according to OECD 105 (slow-stirring flask method) as being = 2.6*E-7 g/L (0.260 µg/L) at 20°C

Additional information

Gancet (2008) followed OECD guideline 105 and refers to the column elution method. Since this study, it has been acknowledged that column elution method is not fully applicable to liquids (Guidance R.7A, version 2.0, table R.7.1-4). In addition, the limit of quantification of the analytical method was not low enough to quantify the solubilised test material.

Calculation of water solubility for Polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl with EPIWIN delivers a figure of about 4.3*10-8 mg/L with WSKOW and 4.3*10-7 mg/L with WATERNT, but these QSARs failed to simulate the right water solubility for an analogue substance tert-dodecanethiol. Polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl is made of 2 units of tert-dodecanethiol linked by polysulfide bonds. As water solubility of tert-dodecanethiol has been determined to be equal to 4.67 µg/L using OECD 105, slow-stirring flask method design, it can be assumed that water solubility of Polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl is in reality significantly lower than the µg/L range,

In order to verify this, an additional study with the same design has been committed in 2015-2016 and is reported in this updated dossier. The water solubility of Polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl has finally been determined to be 0.26 µg/L at 20°C.
