The melting point of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 102, EU Method A.1 and EPA OPPTS 830.7200 under GLP conditions using differential scanning calorimetry.

The DSC technique records the difference in heat flow of two crucibles, one filled with test material and the other left empty as reference, while these crucibles are subjected to a controlled temperature programme. The melting temperature of the test material is evaluated from the DSC curve as the extrapolated onset temperature of the endothermic melting peak.

For the triplicate determinations, 3.30, 3.20 and 3.96 mg of the test material were used. From an initial temperature of 25 °C, the samples were heated at a rate of 20 °C/minute for replicates 1 and 2 and 5 °C/minute for replicate 3. The end temperature was 400 °C for replicates 1 and 3 and 225 °C for replicate 2. The experiments were performed under a flow of nitrogen and at atmospheric pressure.

Under the conditions of this study the melting temperature was determined to be between 179 and 186 °C (452 to 459 K). Reaction and/or decomposition was observed during DSC experiments at temperatures of > 179 °C (> 452 K).
