Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
April 2020
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.1 (Test for oxidizing solids)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Duration of test (contact time):
3 min
Key result
Sample tested:
4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
177 s
Key result
Sample tested:
1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
471 s

Burning times for the 4:1 mixtures:

209 / 164 / 157 / 184 / 169 s - only a few small flames were observed for this mixtures. The cones burned down only partially. At the given time the wire broke and the burning extinguished

Burning time for the 1:1 mixtures:

462 / 524 / 441 / 440 / 488 - Burning

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The mixtures of the test material with cellulose (4:1) and (1:1) burned slower than the reference mixture (potassium bromate/ cellulose 3:7)
Executive summary:

The mixtures of test item with cellulose (4:1) and (1:1) burned slower than the reference mixture

(potassium bromate/cellulose 3:7). The test item had no oxidising properties according to UN Manual

of Test and Criteria, test O.1, revision 7 (2019)

Due to the results the test item had not to be classified as "oxidising solid", division 5.1, of the

UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods / Manual of Test and Criteria.

Due to the results the test item had not to be classified as "oxidising solid" according to chapter 2.14

of the CLP regulation and of the GHS regulation.

Description of key information
