Determination of short-term toxicity of the test item towards Daphnia magna STRAUS was performed according to OECD GUIDELINE 202 resp. EU C.2.

One valid experiment was performed. The study was performed as a limit test with the nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. For the test concentration and the blank control, 20 daphnia were exposed to the test item for 48 hours in a semi static test system. After 24 and 48 hours, the immobilised daphnia were counted. None of the animals was immobilised in the tested concentration and one animal was immobilised in the blank control, which can be stated as not significant. Potassium dichromate K2Cr2O7 (CAS No. 7778-50-9) was used as positive control in a current reference study to assure that the test conditions are reliable. At the beginning, at the medium renewal and at the end of the test, the content of Titanium (Ti) as component of the test item in the test solutions was determined using ICP-OES determination.

The test item showed a very good solubility in water, but in the pre-test the solutions with ISO-medium and M4-medium showed both a strong turbidity. Therefore, M4-medium was used for the test and at the start of the test and at the medium renewal, the stock solution of 100 mg/L (nominal) was filtrated. Afterwards, only low values of Ti could be measured at all measurement times. Nevertheless, it was shown that the test item was present throughout the test. Therefore, the determination of the biological results was based on the nominal concentration. In a separated non-GLP pre-test, both the unfiltrated and filtrated test solution (with M4-medium) of 100 mg/L showed no toxicity. Because ICP-measurement with turbid solutions is not possible, the main test was performed with a filtrated solution.
