Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is an organic substance or mixture containing chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500°C
Justification for type of information:
For the determination of the melting point differential scanning calorimetry method was used. Applying a linear heating rate, the melting point of 2,4,8,10-Tetraoxa-3,9-dithiaspiro[5.5]undecane, 3,3,9,9-tetraoxide was determined to be in the range of 277.5 –283.5 °C (550.7 – 556.7 K) at normal atmospheric pressure followed by decomposition in the range of 300.1 – 310.4 °C (573.3 – 583.6 K) with 6.73 J/g decomposition energy.
Based on the thermograms and the appearance of test item after the tests it is concluded that the test item decomposes after melting.
