Description of key information

Two studies were performed to determine the flammability of dioctadecyl disulphide (Hostanox SE 10, CAS 2500-88-1).
One study was conducted according to the EU Method A.10 and the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1. The other study was conducted according to the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

According to EU Method A.10 criteria, the substance was reported to be non-highly flammable, with no ignition during preliminary test.

The two studies reported a melting of the test material, without ignition. For the two studies, a burning number (Brennzahl) of 1 (significating no ignition of the test material) was reported.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to CLP Regulation, Annex I, table 2.7.1 on criteria for flammable solids, and according to the Guidance an Application of the CLP Regulation, section 2.8.4.5 Decision logic, as the screening test is negative, dioctadecyl disulphide (Hostanox SE 10, CAS 2500-88-1)should not be classified as flammable solid.
