Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
4- FIRST AID MEASURES
- After inhalation : Remove to fresh air. Keep patient warm. Seek immediately medical advice.
- After skin contact : Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with plenty of water
- After eye contact : Wash immediately with plenty of water for 15 min.
- After swallowing : Do not make the victim vomit. Do not give anything orally. Alert a physician
- Instructions for the physician : Treat according to symptoms. Keep the victim under medical surveillance.
Fire-fighting measures
5- FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Suitable extinguishing media: CO2, powder, foam
Special risks : toxic gases when in contact with fire : COx, NOx
Inadvisable media : Do not use water jet
Special protective equipment for fire fighting : Wear a complete protection equipment and a self contained respiratory apparatus
Other information: Cool the vessels in the vicinity with sprayed water
Accidental release measures
1- ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Person related precautionary measures : Avoid contact
Environmental-protection measures: Wear gloves, mask with cartridge (ABP) adapted for chemical uses
Procedures for cleaning / absorption : Keep out of drains, prevent entry in natural environment; Recover with an appropriate material, clean the place with an absorbing product and put the whole in a container. Ventilate the place and wash the spreaded zone.
Handling and storage
HANDLING
Avoid contact with skin.
Avoid exposure to vapors.
Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

Exposure controls / personal protection
EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION
Occupational exposure limit value (in μg / m3) : not available for the product. For MTBE, in France, VLE = 367 mg/m3 = 100 ppm and VME = 183,5 mg/m3 = 50 ppm.
Personal protective equipment :
Respiratory protection: Dust respirator, Cartridge (ABP) mask or a self contained respiratory apparatus
Eye protection: Wear appropriate panoramic mask
Hand protection: Suitable gloves adapted to chemical uses (EN374) : wear neopren gloves, avoid latex, PVC and nitrile gloves.
Body protection : Minimize exposed skin with appropriate anti-static and hermetic clothing for sampling and special and complete protective suit “Mururoa” with ventilated hooded constant flow for handling.
Industrial hygiene : Wear the protective equipment. Handle under fumehood. Do not eat nor drink at the workplace. Wash hands and face after handling.
Stability and reactivity
10- STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
- Stability : stable in standard conditions of use
- Conditions to be avoided : Heat, flame, sparks, moisture, avoid electrostatic charge
- Hazardous decomposition products : COx, NOx
Disposal considerations
Product disposal method : PRODUCT MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE COUNTRY-SPECIFIC REGULATIONS.
Contaminated packing : PRODUCT MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE COUNTRY-SPECIFIC REGULATIONS.
