Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- From 06 December 2011 to 22 December 2011
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
- Version / remarks:
- Reg. 440/2008
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Key result
- Relative self-ignition temperature:
- 219 °C
- Remarks on result:
- other: In the first assay, the self-ignition temperature was observed at 220°C and in the second assay, the self-ignition temperature was observed at 218°C. The result is the mean value of two assays.
- Conclusions:
- The mean self-ignition temperature is 219°C
- Executive summary:
The test item was tested for its self-ignition temperature according to the EC A.16 method and following the GLP.
The cube was filled with the test item to be tested and was tapped gently adding more of the test item until the cube was completely full. The sample was then suspended in the center of the oven at room temperature.
One thermocouple was placed at the center of the cube and the other between the cube and the oven wall to record the oven temperature.
The temperatures of the oven and sample were continuously recorded while the temperature of the oven increases up to 420°C or to the melting point of the solid, if lower, at a rate of 0.5°C/min.
The test was performed twice. In both assays, the test item was a beige powder at the start of the test and blackened at the end of the test.
An exothermic reaction was registered at 218°C and 220°C respectively.
So the mean self-ignition temperature of the test item is 219°C.
