Reference
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
not specified
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: determination of partition coefficient of PEG
- Short description of test conditions: Partition coefficient of PEG 400 were determined in quadruplicate for water and hydrophobic solvents. For each run, 33 g of PEG 400 were dissolved in 110 ml of water. Polyethylene glycol solution was added to 110 ml of organic solvent in a 500-ml reaction bottle. The PEG content of the organic phase and water phase was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
ca. -3.05
Temp.:
25 °C
pH:
ca. 7

Description of key information

Taking in mind the real range of -1 > x < 8, the value of -1 has been used to calculate the predicted exposure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-1
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information
