During the cooling phase down to -90 °C no thermal effects could be observed. In the subsequent heating phase no thermal effects could be detected up to room temperature, at which the test item is a liquid. Due to this result, it can be stated that the test item has no melting or freezing point down to a temperature of -90 °C.

During the heating phase the test item showed an exothermic effect in the temperature range of 160 – 240 °C with an average energy release of -100 J/g. An endothermic effect was observed in the temperature range of 290 – 350 °C, which can be assigned by the confirmation via the capillary method to the boiling of the test item. The measured onset temperatures are corrected to the standard pressure to be 324.97 °C, 287.02 °C and 293.30 °C, respectively. As the corrected onset temperatures off all tests deviate by more than 0.5 K from their mean value of 301.76 °C, the test item has a boiling range of 287 – 325 °C.

To verify the results of the DSC measurement, an additional measurement in a boiling capillary was performed in the temperature range of 100 °C to 330 °C with a heating rate of 10 K/min. At the starting temperature of 100 °C the test item was a clear, colourless liquid. Starting at a temperature of 244 °C a first formation of bubbles was observed, which increased its frequency at higher temperatures. At a temperature of 308.2 °C the boiling criteria represented by the bubble rise frequency of 0.6 Hz was fulfilled. At this temperature the test item was still a clear, colourless liquid. The test was terminated at a maximum temperature of 330 °C. According to the observations during the test in the capillary method, the endothermic effect in the temperature range of 290 – 350 °C in the DSC measurements with open crucibles can be clearly assigned to the boiling of the test item. Due to this result, the onset temperatures of the DSC measurements are used for evaluation.

The boiling range of the test item was determined to be 287 - 325 °C at an ambient pressure of 1013 hPa.
