A Pensky-Mertens apparatus was used for this purpose. The approximate flash point was determined in a preliminary test. The first ignition trial of the main test is performed at a test item temperature 23 ± 5 °C below the approximate flash point determined in the preliminary test. The flame is dipped in the cup at 1 K intervals. The main test was performed twice. The mean flash point corrected to standard pressure of 1013 hPa and rounded down to the nearest multiple of 0.5 °C was determined to be 105.5 °C.
