Description of key information

A sample of diesel fuel was tested in a 'read-across' acute algal toxicity study. The 72hr EL50 was determined to be 10 mg/l, with a NOEC of 3 mg/l.

A supporting PetroTox modelled value of 995.67 mg/L for acute toxicity was obtained with a chronic value of 0.55 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
10 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3 mg/L

Additional information

A sample of diesel fuel was tested in an acute algal toxicity study using the WAF methodology and following OECD Guideline 201.

The 72 -hour EL50 (loading rate resulting in 50% decrease in growth of algae) was 10 mg/L. The NOEL was 3 mg/L.

A supporting PetroTox modelled value of 995.67 mg/L for acute toxicity was obtained with a chronic value of 0.55 mg/L.
