Description of key information

4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for toxicity to algae in a 72 h-static test according to EU-method C.3 and OECD guideline 201. The EC50 based on growth rate was assessed at 1038 mg/L. The overall NOEC was determined at 22 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1 038 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
22 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of 4 -Hydroxy TEMPO to algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) was investigated according to EU-method C.3 and OECD guideline 201. Algae were exposed to the test item for 72 hours. The following concentrations were tested 10, 22, 48, 100, 220, 480, 1000 mg/L. As measured concentrations did not deviate more than 20 %, results were based on nominal concentrations. The EC50, based on growth rate, was assessed at 1038 mg/L. The overall NOEC was determined at 22 mg/L.
