Not irritating or sensitising in human volunteers

There is ample data in numerous studies to demonstrate that triethyl citrate (TEC) is not a skin irritant or sensitiser in humans. This is in contrast to the strong sensitisation reaction of TEC in the guinea pig maximisation assay (GPMT). As another larger ester, ATBC, was negative in the GPMT it is reasoned that the target substance, ATHC, is not a dermal sensitiser.
