Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Bis(1-methylheptyl) adipate (CAS 108-63-4) is a mono-constituent substance which is characterised by a low water solubility (0.0042 mg/L at 20 °C, pH ca. 5.9) a high log Pow (> 8 at 20 °C) and a low vapour pressure (4.28E-4 Pa at 20 °C). The estimated log Koc value the substance is > 4. Studies on the biodegradability of the target substance are not available. Thus the assessment is based on read-across data compiled from the source substances Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5), Dioctyl adipate (CAS 123-79-5) and Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (CAS 103-23-1). A detailed read-across justification is provided in IUCLID section 13.

Bis(1-methylheptyl) adipate is regarded as readily biodegradable according to guideline criteria based on the available read across data (>70% in 28 d). Abiotic degradation by hydrolysis is no relevant degradation pathway. Based on the physico-chemical properties, the substance is expected to distribute mainly to the soil and sediment compartment if released to the environment. Evaporation and subsequent transport through the atmosphere is not likely due to the low vapour pressure of the substance. Due to its ready biodegradability the substance is expected to be rapidly degraded by microorganisms in aquatic and terrestrial environments including biological sewage treatment plants and is therefore not expected to persist in the environment.
