For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement a screen test was performed with the test item. The sample was heated from 20 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. Based on this preliminary test the flash point of the test item was determined to be: 20.3 °C.

In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of the test item were: 8.4 °C, 8.4 °C and 7.9 °C, resulting a mean value: 8 °C at 101.3 kPa.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9 to determine the flash point of the test item using a closed cup method with Pensky-Martens apparatus. A preliminary test was performed with a search program to determine the rough flash point. For the main test 2 mL of the test item were filled in the cup. The estimated flash point from the preliminary test was used as target temperature for the main test - 20.3 °C. Heating rate of 2.5 K/min was used in the main test. The test was performed three times. The measured flash point at atmospheric pressure was corrected to a standard pressure of 1013 hPa. The flash point was determined to be at 8.4 °C (corrected to the ambient pressure). Thus, the flash point of the test item was determined to be 8 °C (corrected and rounded down to the nearest multiple of 0.5 °C) at 1013.25 hPa.
