Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash the eyes with clean water or isotonic saline for at

least 10 minutes. If irritation occurs seek medical

attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing, wash skin thoroughly with soap

and water. If irritation occurs seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, carbon dioxide, foam and dry powder may be used.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon and

iridium.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (see 2.3.1).

Avoid dust formation. Absorb spillages of solutions with a

suitable inert material (eg sand or soil). Carefully

transfer the spillage to labelled waste containers, or use a

sealed industrial vacuum machine. Dispose of waste material

by recovering the metal at a precious metal refinery in

accordance with local regulations. Wash the spill area with

water and detergent. Do not allow washings to enter

watercourses.

Handling and storage

Handling: Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid inhalation and contact

with skin and eyes. Protective clothing, chemical resistant

gloves and goggles should be worn together with an

appropriate filter-type respirator conforming to the

appropriate national standards.

Storage: Store in tightly closed containers in a cool dry

well-ventilated area.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Substance: Store in plastic containers.

Preparation: Acetic acid solution stored in UN 1H1

specification plastic drums.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance decomposes at temperatures in excess of 256

deg C, if involved in a fire. The residue, ash or char left

after a fire may have catalytic properties and could promote

re-ignition of flammable materials or vapours.

Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Dust explosion: Not anticipated.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: All residues and spilt material should be recovered and

returned to a precious metal refinery for iridium recovery.

(A623)

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended. The substance should not be discharged

directly to the sewage system or the aqueous environment.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: The substance, preparations of the substance, contaminated

containers or spillages of solutions mixed with inert

material (eg sand or soil) should be disposed of by recovery

of the metal at a precious metal refinery.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
