Description of key information

A study of toxicity of benoxacor to microorganisms was carried out to the OECD guideline 209, using activated sludge from a STP treating predominantly municipal waste water. The obtained NOEC for benoxacor was 100 mg/L, whereas the EC50 was >100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The key study (Swarbrick, 2002) investigated the toxicity of benoxacor to microorganisms from activated sludge. The study followed OECD guideline 209, was GLP compliant and is considered to be reliable without restrictions (Klimisch 1).

The key values used in the chemical safety assessment are the 3-hour NOEC of 100 mg/L and the EC50 based on respiration inhibition, which exceeds 100 mg benoxacor/L, the highest concentration tested. Please note that these endpoint values exceed the limit of solubility of benoxacor.
