Description of key information

A study of bioaccumulation in a freshwater system is available for benoxacor using fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas). The study was performed according to a Springborn protocol with modifications from Fish Bioconcentration Toxicity Test Environmental Effects Test guidelines (EPA, 1982) and provides an equilibrium bioconcentration factor of 94.

Additional information

The key study (Suprenant, 1986) investigated the potential for bioaccumulation of benoxacor in aquatic systems. The test organism was fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) and the study was conducted to a Springborn protocol including procedures from Macek et al, 1975 and Barrows et al, 1980 with modifications from Fish Bioconcentration Toxicity Test Environmental Effects Test guidelines (EPA, 1982). The study was GLP compliant and is considered to be reliable without restriction (Klimisch 1).

During the exposure time of 9 days fathead minnows were continuously exposed to a nominal concentration of 0.12 mg/L of carbon-14-labelled benoxacor in well water. Thereafter, all remaining fish were transferred to flowing, untreated dilution water for a 42-day depuration time. A mean water concentration of 0.12 mg benoxacor/L was measured during the 9 day exposure period.
