The stability of benoxacor in the natural environment has been investigated through diverse studies of hydrolysis and phototransformation in water. Three GLP-compliant studies are available for phototransformation in water and for hydrolysis of benoxacor.

The half-life values for benoxacor under natural and artificial light range from 14 minutes to 3.24 hours, which suggests rapid phototransformation. In contrast, hydrolytic degradation of benoxacor is slow and only relevant at pH-values >7. Under neutral conditions the degradation half-life is relatively slow (half-life 40.1 days at 25°C), but increases with increasing pH (half-life 13 days at 25°C and pH 9.0). Under acidic conditions the compound is stable.
